About Algirós:
Algirós is the name of my neighborhood in Valencia, Spain. By scanning the QR code, you will find the recording of an audio walk through its streets, along with other environments that I encounter whenever I come back home. The United States is where I live during the year because that is where work is, but as I grow older, I am becoming painfully aware of coming back to a place that I know I will have to leave after vacation. To make matters worse, the city is becoming increasingly gentrified and touristified. Ironically, many of those newcomers arrive from the US, and other northern European countries, where purchasing power is higher. At the beginning of the walk, you will hear the buzz of the airport, the train station, then the calm of my home street and neighboring parks. Towards the end of the walk, you will hear a demonstration with people protesting the massive blocks of tourist apartments, whose rent prices are displacing the neighbors.
